Are Your Numbers Telling the Story you Expected?

We’re nearly halfway through the year. This is the moment to ask: Is your business on pace to meet its 2025 goals?

As a fractional CFO, I’ve seen how powerful a mid-year check-in can be. With just a few key numbers, you can uncover what’s working, what’s drifting off-course, and where to refocus your energy before Q3 kicks off.

Here are 5 essential metrics to review right now:

  1. Gross Profit Margin
This shows how efficiently your business turns revenue into profit after direct costs. If your margin is shrinking, it might be due to pricing pressure, rising input costs, or an unprofitable product mix — all of which you can act on now.

  1. Budget vs. Actuals
Compare your year-to-date actuals with your forecasted numbers. Are sales tracking where you expected? Are expenses in line or trending high? This comparison helps pinpoint where you need to pivot — before surprises hit in Q3.

  1. Operating Cash Flow
Are you generating cash from your core operations, or relying on outside funding or credit lines to stay afloat? A healthy business fuels itself. If not, it’s time to dig into receivables, payment terms, or expense timing.

  1. Forecast Through Year-End
Look ahead. Based on what you know today, where are you likely to land by December? A solid, updated forecast gives you the visibility to make decisions confidently — whether that’s investing in growth, managing a dip, or reallocating resources.

  1. Customer or Revenue Concentration
Is too much of your revenue tied to one or two clients? High customer concentration is a hidden risk. Mid-year is a great time to evaluate how diversified your income really is and plan accordingly.

Even a short review of these numbers can bring big clarity and better decisions. If you’d like help interpreting the numbers or planning your next move, we can help.

Let’s make sure the second half of the year works for you — not against you!
